James Steward is a retired Captain with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department and retired Command Sergeant Major with the United States Army, the highest rank a noncommissioned officer can attain. He brings a
wealth of experience and leadership to his candidacy for Mayor of Lake Charles. He is a graduate of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Regional Law Enforcement Academy, Louisiana State University (LSU) Interview and
Interrogation, LSU Burglary Investigation, FBI Search and Seizure, LaSalle University Chicago Illinois, Police Law, US Army Personnel Management School, US Army Finance and Accounting School, and several US Army Leadership schools, including the US Army Sergeant Major Academy.
He was deployed to Operation Desert Storm and the Iraq War, where he served as Post Command Sergeant Major, responsible for over thirty thousand soldiers. His US Army awards include the Legion of Merit Award, the highest award for a Command Sergeant Major. James served on the Mayor's Armed Forces Commission Board, VFW Post
7321, American Legion Post 1, Saint Patrick Hospital Foundation Advisory Board, Family & Youth Council Board.
